five retail selling tips for salespeople

Essential retail sales tips to help you sell more

ATTITUDE

Before utilising any of the following retail selling tips you must begin with having the right attitude and believing that everyone is a buyer. So many people are going to begin their day of selling thinking “This is going to be a BAD day for sales”. Their attitude is dictating their success to start with.

To stand out from the crowd and to set yourself up for a successful selling day you have got to believe that everybody coming in to your shop is in the market and a potent
ial buyer.

IMPRESSION

Make a good first impression! This doesn’t mean you have to be over-the-top and doing cartwheels, but you’ve got to be there, attentive, personable, and smiley. My added recommendation is, as early as possible, shake hands with the customer.

A lot of people don’t do it because they tell themselves “I’m uncomfortable”. However, like anything else you have to practice it and soon enough it will become second nature for you. I can assure you if you time it right you’ll build trust very quickly by simply shaking the customer hand.

QUESTIONS

Ask good questions! Don’t start selling anything until you’ve asked your handful of key questions that you will, or should, already know.

RECOMMENDATIONS

At this point you should make your recommendations for the customer’s consideration, which should be based on the answers that they have already given, and should illustrate why your specific product or service is right for them.

CLOSE

Finally, and most importantly, this is what the rest of the steps have been leading towards. The close doesn’t necessarily come after all the previous points have been completed as you could see an opportunity to arrive at the close earlier in the process.

However, if you’ve ticked off all of the steps the customer should be primed and ready to complete the sale. If this is the case the close shouldn’t feel forced and should become the natural conclusion to the conversation.

Implement all of these retail selling tips over the next few months and you’ll see a marked improvement in the quality and quantity of your sales.
